The Farne Islands are a medium-sized group of offshore islands in the North Sea, located off the coast of eastern England. There are around 15-20 or many more islands depending on how high the tide is. They are divided into two groups, the Outer Group and the Inner Group. Discover the authentic St Cuthbert's ChapelIn 678 AD, the island of Inner Farne was home to St Cuthbert, after nearly 12 years as Prior of Lindisfarne, he retired to Inner Farne until he became Bishop of Lindisfarne in 684 AD. His health deteriorated until he was forced to return to the island, he died on 20 March 687 AD. In 1370, a church was built on the island of Inner Farne in his honour. The chapel is Grade II listed and is included in England's National Heritage List.
6. Reach the top of the renowned Longstone LighthouseLocated on the outer group of the Farne Islands, this is an active lighthouse with its beginnings dating back to the 19th century. Its construction was completed in 1826 due to the need for light on the islands to warn ships of the dangers that surrounded them, its original name was Outer Farne Lighthouse and its creation allowed it to complement the previous Inner Farne Lighthouse. To tour the lighthouse, you can only do so on board of a boat, and the only ones authorized by Trinity House are The Golden Gate Boat Trip Company.
