Some of the birds that breed on the islands are: Common Eider, Shag, Kittiwake, Kittiwake, Arctic Tern, Woodlark, and many others. Top 7 travel tips in Seahouses

1. Take a walk around the interesting Preston Tower

It was built between 1392 and 1399, to defend a lawless country, when war between England and Scotland was endemic. It was one of 78 Pele Towers in Northumberland at the time of 1415. It is an uninhabited property, but fully furnished, as it must have been in the 14th century. On the ground floor there is a nursery and prison, and on the first floor there is a sitting room and bedroom. In addition to this, on the first floor is the Flodden room which has a vast description of the Battle of Flodden, as well as some important details of Border history and the ballads of Border.

2. Visit the picturesque Seahouses Harbour

Originally known as North Sunderland Harbour it began its history as a small wooden jetty in the middle of two natural rocks. Today, the harbour is dedicated to welcoming the many visitors who come to see the Farne Islands, go angling, snorkelling and enjoy a pleasant stroll along the quayside of this humble harbour.

3. Discover the authentic St Cuthbert's Chapel

In 678 AD, Inner Farne Island was home to St Cuthbert, after nearly 12 years as Prior of Lindisfarne, he retired to Inner Farne until he became Bishop of Lindisfarne in 684 AD. His health deteriorated until he was forced to return to the island, and he died on 20 March 687 AD. In 1370, a church was built on the island of Inner Farne in his honour. The chapel is Grade II listed and is included in England's National Heritage List.

4. Learn at the masterful Slate Hall Riding Centre

A riding school offering riding lessons, as well as equestrian facilities, dressage, stabling, livery or saddlery. Riders of all levels are welcome to use a good selection of horses and ponies. The centre offers rides and walks along the beaches and through the Northumberland countryside. Hop on your favourite horse and ride close to the included Bamburgh Castle, ride along Seahouses beach and be amazed by the view of the Farne, Beadnell and Dunstanburgh Castle.

5. See the wonders of the town on the fun Golden Gate Farne Islands Boat Trips

You can visit the bird sanctuaries located on the Inner Farne and Staple Islands. While on board this boat you will have the opportunity to land on Longstone Island and tour the lighthouse where Grace Darling once stood for a long time. When you climb to the top of the lighthouse you will see a sublime view of the islands which will make the trip an unforgettable experience. Domestic pets are welcome on Longstone Island as long as they are on a leash. You may also wish to board the cruise to admire the sunset over the Farne Islands.

6. Walk along gentle Budle Bay

A mile-wide bay in England's North Sea. It is located between Bamburgh and Lindisfarne. It is full of limestone and different types of rocks. In this place during the 20th century there was a seaport called Warenmouth.

7. Reach the top of the renowned Longstone Lighthouse

Located in the outer group of the Farne Islands, it is an active lighthouse whose beginnings date back to the 19th century. Its construction was completed in 1826 because of the need for light on the islands to warn ships of the surrounding dangers, its original name was Outer Farne Lighthouse and its creation allowed it to complement the earlier Inner Farne Lighthouse. To tour the lighthouse, you can only do so on board a boat and the only ones authorized by Trinity House are The Golden Gate Boat Trip Company.
