Loch Awe is the longest freshwater loch in Britain and as such boasts 96 km of shoreline making this a perfect playground for waterlovers! Enjoy the adventure of exploring the tiny islands and secret bays of the loch that are only discoverable by boat and explore hidden beach coves via the nearby Loch Etive sea loch to the north of Loch Awe as well as fabulous grade 2 and 3 whitewater rafting on the River Awe!

Loch Awe is a uniquely remote and undeveloped destination where much of the area is only accessible on foot. Wildlife lovers can enjoy sightings of majestic birds of prey soaring overhead, ducks and waders on the loch shore, red deer and roe deer in the Ardbrecknish vicinity and a multitude of red squirrels, pine martens and otters. If you love hiking adventures you will find a wonderful range of local hikes and trails to explore. The Tall Trees Trail is a magnificent 8 km woodland hike while the stunning 3km Avavich Falls Walk takes you to a dramatic, cascading waterfall amidst lush scenery. Both of these walks begin just outside the village of Dalavich.

Loch Awe is the perfect palace for a splendid, short road trip! You can drive the entire Loch Awe shoreline loop of 96km along the well maintained A85 on the eastern side of the loch and the A816 on the western side. There are plenty of opportunities for exploring local woodland, remote highland villages and off the beaten track nature spots. Pack a picnic and find a beautiful secluded setting for an outdoor lunch en route!

Head to Hollow Mountain for a hydroelectric power station tour that offers you a truly memorable James Bond experience! Hidden beneath the mountains of Ben Cruachan lies a formidable electricity generating plant that is a marvel of subterranean engineering. This site is just 40 minutes north east of Loch Awe. While you are in the area you can explore St Conan's Kirk Church where you can see one of the most unique architectural wonders in Scotland!

This stunning castle ruin stands on a small, uninhabited rocky island in Loch Awe opposite the tiny village of Dalavich. This magnificent fortress boasts an impressive past as it was the chief stronghold of the Campbell clan until the late 15th century! Pack a picnic and rent a boat or canoe from a nearby village for a day out to remember!

Just 32 minutes south east of Loch Awe lies the secluded splendour of Inveraray Castle on the shores of Loch Fyne, Scotland's biggest sea loch. This stunning gothic revival estate is one of Scotland's most renowned stately homes! See around 1300 pieces of ancient Scottish armour in the Armoury Hall and admire incredible French tapestries and priceless collections of furniture, china, silver and family heirlooms. There are lovely walks to be enjoyed on the vast estate.

Discover one of the finest mountain adventures in the southern Scottish highlands replete with jagged peaks, rocky ridges and absolutely breathtaking views! Ben Cruachan towers a majestic 1126 metres above the valley floor. The ascent takes about 3 hours and you will pass through a steep wooded path, walk along the Cruachan Reservoir and tackle a dramatic bouldered approach before the final easy stretch to the summit where you will be rewarded with absolutely gorgeous views!

If you are in the mood for a remarkable day out that celebrates the now vanished rural history of Scotland, head just 10 minutes south east of Loch Awe to Auchindrain Township where you can step back in time and explore the most pristine example of a Scottish Highland farming township.
