If you're a keen walker, Carsington Water offers three paved walking trails around the lake and through the park that allow you to enjoy the stunning views. You can hike the 1.5 kilometre quiet trail to Stone's Island; the Dam Trail, a 5 kilometre invigorating walk along the top of the dam; and the Reservoir Trail, a 12 kilometre loop around the reservoir that takes you through meadows, woods, and streams. This is the most demanding trail of all and includes some steep inclines. After your hike, stop at the visitor centre for refreshments.

In addition to hiking, Carsington Water offers a range of water sports from canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing to stand up paddleboarding. By doing any of these activities, you can explore more closely the beauty of the crystal clear waters that cover over 740 hectares. Besides water sports, the kids, and you can also enjoy other land-based activities such as cycling along routes such as the 3-mile cycle route, a child-friendly route; the Carsington Water cycle route which covers almost 8 miles (12.87 km), a little more challenging route.

Based in Wirksworth, near Carsington Water, the Ecclesboume Valley Line is Derbyshire's longest heritage railway. Don't miss a nine-mile journey on this pretty railway, soak up some of the White Peak's most stunning scenery and enjoy a glass of champagne and a tart as it glides gently through the countryside.

Just minutes from Carsington Water, head to The Heights of Abraham. Enjoy the cable car ride, take in the dramatic scenery from above, dine with incredible views at the Vista Restaurant and take a guided tour of the impressive 350 million-year-old caverns. The Heights of Abraham are a tourist attraction in Matlock Bath that is well worth a visit.

The Northern Light cinema is located in Wirksworth and provides a variety of great films for a night of entertainment. Take a seat on either the sofas, armchairs or rescued vintage cinema seats and watch a drama, thriller, or family film. Then stop by the bar and enjoy a delicious Mediterranean meal accompanied by a good beer or wine.

The Miner's Arms is a country pub located on the 8-mile footpath around Carsington Water, offering an extensive menu, local ales and a warm welcome. Grab a cocktail or slushy at the outdoor bar and take a bite of the fine food at this restaurant. On the menu you'll find a range of pub classics such as tapas, burgers, pizzas, roasts and more.

If you find yourself holidaying with the little ones, Gulliver's Kingdom is a place that shouldn't be missed. At this theme park, children can enjoy thrilling roller coasters and many other fantastic attractions. Enjoy adventures with amazing views of the hills, take a ride on the 300-foot-high log slide, and eat big meals at the park's various restaurants.

Another attraction worth visiting during your day out in Matlock Bath is the Matlock Bath Aquarium and Exhibits. Pay a visit to this popular attraction, see over 50 species of fish, wander through the thermal pool to see the famous carp collection and discover one of the largest public displays of holograms in Europe.
