The coastline of Amble is the ideal spot for catching the last rays of sunlight and admiring incredible sunsets. You can find secluded bays and coves, spot castles along the way and indulge in superb seafood. Pristine waters and sandy stretches ideal for a family day out on the beach, soaking up the sun, finding shells, making sandcastles and practising your favourite water sports including SUP, kayaking or enjoy the beach on horseback. Some beaches are dog friendly so if you come with your furry little friend, it will be very welcome as well.

You can take a guided walk along some of the beaches comprising the stunning Northumberland Coast Path. England's northernmost county has a varied natural scenery that will allow you to discover an unspoiled region by exploring its crumbling ruins, ancient castles and the iconic Hadrian's Wall. If you walk the Hadrian’s Wall Path you will delve further into Northern England going back in time and discovering great sites along the St Cuthbert’s Way. St Oswald’s Way is a pilgrimage route starting in Holy Island and going into Hadrian's Wall Country. Pick an itinerary, pack your bags and start your walking journey!

Although you cannot step foot on the island, you can get on a boat trip from Able and enjoy birdwatching. Every spring, this little island is bustling with seabirds cramming here to breed. The popular puffins also known as the ‘clowns of the sea’, visit in and it is such a great view to enjoy.

Cycle along the coast and find some gentle cycling routes to pedal across forests, go past ancient sites or challenge yourself into demanding mountain bike tracks and venture into nooks that cars will never reach! As you take the Coast and Castle Route, you will enjoy fantastic sea views and great castles in different states of survival, plenty of coves and bays to make a stop and take a dip and beautiful islands in the distance. This route is recommended to do it south to north, to be wind assisted.

Fishing is a very rewarding activity here in Amble. At the Amble Angling Centre you can get started. The owners can give you great tips on the area and how to get started. The most caught fish in this area is cod. Fishing Boats can be chartered from the harbour. They will take you to the fishing spots. Mackerel Trips are also a popular activity from June to September. These trips are run in the evenings by Jeff on the Warlord and on Serenity.

Travelling with kids means to find good activities for them to do. In Amble you have an excellent option which is perfect for cold or rainy days. Castle Marina Indoor Adventure Play is an award winning themed adventure play centre focused on children. Let the little ones wobble their way up the ropes or go sliding down the dragon’s tail! Have fun at the cannon ball swings and enjoy playing at any of the 40 interactive adventures. Enjoy some go-karting and get some food and drinks at Dex’s Cafe. A fabulous day out!

Feel like a king or queen for the day in this mighty Northumberland fortress overlooking River Coquet from atop the hill. Enjoy a family day out and learn how the Dukes of Northumberland used to live. Visit the chambers, the different floors and rooms and take in the views of the river and the sea from the castle walls.

Every Sunday morning from 10 am to 4 pm, the market takes place in Amble. Find local producers with fresh fruit and veggies, handmade goods and plenty of original gits. The market is located in the harbour. Get your groceries and go back to your cottage to enjoy a homemade pie, some fish and chips and glass of red.
