Ski season is upon us! As usual, skiing in the US attracts snow enthusiasts from all levels and backgrounds. Whether you are with your family, a group of friends, or on a solo trip, there are plenty of reasons to head to the mountains. But which resort should you choose?

Holidu, the booking portal for holiday rentals, decided to carry out a study to determine which ski resorts in the US are the most popular on Google this year.

The final ranking highlights that:

  • Copper Mountain in Colorado takes first prize as THE most popular ski resort in 2024/25
  • SIX states feature resorts in the top 10
  • California (2 resorts) and Vermont (2 resorts) dominate the top 10

1. Copper Mountain, Colorado | Avg. 97,700 searches per month

It’s official – the most popular ski resort in the U.S. for the 2024/25 season is Copper Mountain! Just 121 kilometres from Denver, Copper Mountain features 23 ski lifts across 2,507 acres, catering to all abilities with naturally divided terrain. Known for its reliable powder and varied slopes, it’s an ideal destination for families and groups. The base village adds to the experience with dining, shopping, and après-ski options, making this a popular winter spot for both locals and visitors.

2. Crystal Mountain, Washington | 91,200 searches per month

Located near Mount Rainer, Crystal Mountain in Washington is a popular ski destination with 11 lifts and over 2,600 acres of skiable terrain, making it the largest ski resort in the state. Known for its stunning views of Mount Rainer and reliable snowfall, it offers a diverse run for all skill levels, from beginner slopes to challenging expert terrain. The resort also features a scenic gondola ride and cosy lodges for après-ski relaxation, making it a favourite among both locals and visitors seeking an authentic Pacific Northwest mountain experience.

3. Palisades Tahoe, California | 85,100 searches per month

Set near the scenic shores of Lake Tahoe, Palisades Tahoe in California is one of the largest ski resorts in the United States, featuring 34 lifts and over 6,000 acres of terrain. With an Olympic legacy and diverse runs that cater to all abilities — from wide beginner trails to steep, adrenaline-filled descents — Palisades Tahoe offers a dynamic experience for every skier and snowboarder. Stunning lake views, a lively base village and numerous après-ski spots make it a top destination for those looking to enjoy both exceptional skiing and a vibrant resort atmosphere.

4. Snowbird, Utah | 60,900 searches per month

Snowbird in Utah takes the fourth place spot with an average of 60,900 monthly searches in the past year. Set in the rugged Wasatch Mountains, Snowbird is a renowned ski resort offering 14 lifts and over 2,500 acres of terrain celebrated for its deep powder and long ski season. Known for its challenging sloped and diverse runs, it attracts advanced skiers and riders, though it also offers options for beginners and intermediates. The resort’s unique Aerial Tram, scenic mountain views, and cosy lodges make this location a favourite for those looking to experience Utah’s famous snow in a beautiful alpine setting.

5. Mount Snow, Vermont | 55,700 searches per month

Set in Vermont’s scenic Green Mountains, this popular East Coast resort, Mount Snow, offers 20 lifts and over 600 acres of terrain suitable for all levels. Skiers and snowboarders enjoy a blend of beginner-friendly slopes, expansive intermediate trails, and challenging advanced runs. Known for its innovative amenities, it features the East Coast’s first high-speed six-pack lift and a spacious terrain park that’s a hit with freestyle enthusiasts. With a welcoming base village and classic New England charm, Mount Snow delivers an ideal winter experience for visitors of all ages.

Methodology:

For this study, Holidu analysed the average monthly global search volume on Google for ski resorts across the United States over the past 12 months. The ranking was created by ordering the ski resorts in descending order, from the highest to the lowest number of searches, to reveal the most popular destinations for the 2024/2025 ski season.
