It’s official! First in our ranking is Moët & Chandon, one of the world’s largest champagne producers, founded in 1743 by Claude Moët. The name was originally Moët et Cie but in 1833, the company was renamed Moet & Chandon after Pierre-Gabriel Chandon de Briailles joined the company as a partner of Jean-Remy Moët, grandson of Claude Moët. The winery’s clientele has always included nobility and aristocrats. Today it has 2,900 acres of vineyards and produces around 28,000,000 bottles of champagne annually. Is there anything better than celebrating the arrival of the new year with an air of nobility?

2. Dom Pérignon Champagne – 371k Google searches per month | 824k+ IG hashtags

In second place we find perhaps one of the most recognizable and desirable champagne brands in the world. This is none other than Dom Pérignon, a classy vintage champagne that exudes luxury and refinement from the very first sip. It is named after Dom Pérignon, a Benedictine monk who was an important pioneer in the quality of champagne, but who, despite the myths, did not invent the method of making sparkling wines. There is no precise number of bottles produced in each vintage, although it is at least 5 million bottles. Starting in September 2022, the current version of Dom Pérignon is from the 2012 vintage and the current version of Dom Pérignon Rosé is from the 2008 vintage.

Next in our ranking is Veuve Clicquot. Founded by Philippe Clicquot but the history of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin goes back to 1772 and is defined by Barbe Nicole Ponsardin (Madame Veuve Clicquot), who was widowed at the age of 27, taking over the family business in 1805. Madame Clicquot, in 1818, invented the first known rosé champagne by blending red and white wines, a process still used by the majority of champagne producers. The company was purchased in 1986 by Louis Vuitton, now part of the LVMH group, and continues to expand worldwide.

The fourth place in the ranking is taken by the oldest champagne house that has been producing champagne exclusively since 1729. The house of Ruinart, founded by Nicolas Ruinart in the city of Reims, a region of Champagne, is also part of the LVMH group mentioned above. The correct serving temperature is 8ºC to 10ºC in order to keep it cold. To serve it, use a tall, thin glass. Its narrow mouth will keep the aroma and bubbles of the champagne longer. Chardonnay is the very soul of this champagne, as they say, and this specific variety gives a delicate and smooth taste.

The fifth place in our ranking belongs to Krug champagne. It was founded by Joseph Krug in 1843 and is based in Reims. The house is now also owned by the LVMH group but despite its majority ownership, the Krug family is still actively involved in all key decisions of the house, without managing the daily operations. Methodology:
For this study, Spain-Holiday and Holidu compared over 100 of the top sparkling wines. The ranking was then compiled using the average number of monthly Google searches for each brand name combined with the keyword: “champagne” or “prosecco” respectively. Instagram hashtag counts for these keywords and their variations were then added to determine the brands that were most popular and sought after.
