The best part of staying in a vacation rental is that you have your own kitchen and can cook yourself a delicious lunch or dinner using local produce. You can find the best and freshest ingredients at a market. The Mercado de Atarazanas is one of the buildings which best represent the architecture of the nineteenth century in Málaga with its magnificent stained-glass window depicting historical highlights of the city. Choose from ham, sausages, cheese, fish and endless varieties of olives. The fruit and veg stalls are the most colourful, selling everything that’s in season. This is definitely the place to come if you want to prepare a mouthwatering, homemade Paella.

This is our absolute favorite cafe in Málaga for every occasion – whether it’s breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a quick stop for coffee and some cake. Here they use local and organic products for the dishes wherever possible. Also, vegetarians and vegans will enjoy the food here! On Sundays you can also book brunch for €15.90. In the evening the menu changes slightly, and you can enjoy some Japanese food. The stunning interior with fancy wallpaper, Bali style lamps and cozy chairs, makes you want to stay all day long.

4. Hidden Gem Málaga: La Recova

For those of you who prefer more traditional food, you should try La Recova for breakfast or some tapas. Spots are usually quickly taken both outside and inside, so maybe try to avoid peak times. So what will be served here? A large thick slice of toasted bread with a variety of homemade spreads including two different mousses with meat, mousse with peppers and dried tomatoes, delicious jams, slices of tomatoes and some fruit. It actually is a real hidden gem as the restaurant is hidden at the back of an antique shop.

This restaurant is a MUST when you visit Málaga! The young and hip tapas bar is a real hidden gem. On the menu you will find delicious, very creative vegetarian dishes, but also some with meat. The whole kitchen is built around fresh vegetables, herbs and tasteful spices – most of them local, seasonal and organic. This is also the reason why the menu varies from time to time. The motto of Fonzo is: “real food tastes best” and you can really see and taste it in every single tapas plate. At Fonzo an evening “for the memories” with soul food and good drinks is guaranteed.

The best spot in town to watch the sunset with a view! The Costa del Sol has several impressive viewpoints and Monte San Antón is one of them. It is located in the eastern part of the city of Málaga. At the top of the mountain, the mountain cross, Cruz de San Antón, awaits you, crowning the summit. So buy some goodies at the local markets to bring a delicious picnic and a good bottle of wine to enjoy the sunset with a magnificent view over the city with the Mediterranean Sea in the background.

“Healthy foods of the world” is the slogan of this amazing little bistro in Soho, a trending area in Málaga. The owners have crafted a menu of sharing dishes influenced by Mediterranean, Asian and Latin American cuisines. So just order a big selection from the menu and share it with your friends. It really is a culinary tour around the world. The fancy and oldschool interior with upcycled furniture creates a special atmosphere. You will already see Mamuchis from far away as the restaurant got a big colorful painting from the outside. They also have a small terrace where you can enjoy your meal outside while doing a little bit of people-watching.

8. Hidden Gem Malaga: Caminito del Rey

If you fancy a hike we would highly recommend making a tour at Caminito del Rey. The trail is 8 kilometers long and impresses with breathtaking views. This trail is elevated to almost 100 meters high on the bottom of the gorge where the river runs through. You should really not miss this experience! Located between the towns of Álora, Antequera and Ardales in the gorge Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, the Caminito del Rey was built more than 100 years ago as a passage for the workers of the two hydroelectric plants. You have to book the entrance tickets in advance as for safety reasons the number of hikers per day is limited. Note that wearing a helmet is also mandatory. It is located 30 kilometers north of Málaga, so perfect for a day trip.
