The area and getting around
Nestled deep in the Surrey Hills woodlands on the banks of the Silent Pool, the local Silent Pool pub is arguably Albury's most visited venue. Taking inspiration from Scottish whisky distilleries, this famous distillery produces handcrafted spirits using local ingredients with a distinct flavour. During your holiday you can sample complex flavours made from botanicals such as berries, liquorice, cassia bark, iris and more to give you a unique sensation. You can also try gins made with more delicate products, such as rose petals, which give a delicious floral essence.
The UK's only Maori meeting houseSouth of Albury, in West Clandon, you'll see Clandon Park House, a 220-hectare agricultural estate that is home to one of only four Maori meeting houses outside New Zealand, and the only one of its kind in the UK. The Maori meeting house is a building of international significance and displays traditional Hinemihi carvings depicting her body parts. Hinemihi was a woman of great authority who lived in New Zealand and is the namesake of a subgroup of the Tūhourangi Maori tribe. Today, the spirit resides in the carvings at the Maori meeting house in Clandon Park.

Albury for cycling loversFrom quiet roads to steep inclines, you'll find a variety of cycling routes around Albury. The wide-open green spaces of Hatchlands Park are ideal for cycling with the family through woodland and wildflower meadows that burst into colour in spring. The Downs Link, however, follows a disused railway line where you can cycle 37 miles (59.55 km) through woodland, wetlands and meadows, and is also considered suitable for families. And 20 minutes from Albury, the town of Dorking, England's self-styled cycling capital, provides the area's most famous zigzag climb, Box Hill, a mix of country lanes and country lanes with outstanding views of the town for more experienced cyclists.
Albury is located in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
