With the trade winds sweeping its coast, Essaouira is particularly suitable for water sports. Every year a stage of the Kitesurfing World Cup takes place there. If you are not tempted by the water, go for hikes in the cedar forests or horse or camel rides along the wild coasts.

From the fish market offering daily fishing to the souk of spices selling these rare products per kilo at more than reasonable prices, not to mention the market of jewellers or second-hand goods dealers, a visit to the souks is essential to discover the typical atmosphere of Morocco. The prices being much more affordable than in Marrakech, enjoy yourself, and don't forget to negotiate!

Located at the foot of the ramparts, the port of Essaouira is recognizable among thousands with its blue painted boats. It offers a permanent spectacle: unceasing comings and goings of boats, repair of nets, manufacture of boats according to tradition... If you get up early, you can even accompany a fisherman at sea! And if you prefer to eat there, you can enjoy tasty fresh fish caught there!

Don't miss this must-see walk in the heart of the old town and its tiny alleys. The blue of the city, supposed to scare away flies, gives the city a very special charm. It also recalls the colour of the Ocean which sustains many inhabitants. Stroll through the shops of the merchants (carpenters, blacksmiths, jewellers...), and don't miss the great mosque, souks, art galleries, cafés and other restaurants.

It is impossible to visit Essaouira without strolling along its famous ramparts built in the 18th century by Théodore Cornut, a student of Vauban. Climb on the skala of the kasbah, the city's defensive wall, to enjoy a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean. You can discover on the ramparts many cannons that were used to defend the city in the past.

Essaouira being a coastal city, it is impossible to miss its beach if you are a water sports enthusiast in particular. Located to the south of the city, Tagharte beach, 6 km long, is a paradise for windsurfers and other kitesurfers. The wind and impressive waves are relatively unsuitable for swimming, but if you prefer to stay on the sand, you can enjoy camel rides or quad excursions. For the most romantic, the sunset on the beach is simply magical.
