Explore the town’s three castles of King John, Taaffes and the Mint, the former dating back to the 12th century, and grace the magnificent Proleek Portal Tomb with your fortuitous presence. The rocky structure, said to have been built by a Scottish giant, is one of the finest of its kind in the country!

A short 15-minute drive from Carlingford you’ll arrive at a place known by the locals as Magic Hill. There is a section of road that heads downhill and if you stop the car at the bottom and let the brake go, your car will roll backwards up the hill! It needs to be seen to be believed!

The piers of Carlingford Lough are a favourite spot for this popular activity. Do it yourself with a piece of string, bait (bacon, chicken, fish) and a weight heavy enough to keep the bait off the bottom. The juicy crabs will be pulling on your line in no time!
