La Arena is one of the best preserved Ancient Roman amphitheatres anywhere in Europe. It was built in A.D. 30. and has a capacity for 30,000 spectators. It still maintains its original seats and exterior arches from the time when it hosted great shows and games, and music and opera concerts are staged here to this day thanks to its magnificent acoustics.

The city boasts two professional football teams – Hellas Verona and Chievo Verona. Hellas Verona is now in the top division of Italian football, Serie A. . Hellas’ fans merrily sing and support their team during the entire game, creating a truly voltaic atmosphere and unforgettable experience.

Cross the 100-metre Stone Bridge to reach San Pietro Castle, from where you can enjoy the sun setting over the city. San Pietro Castle, located in a strategic position on top of a small hill, boasts beautiful gardens and the best viewpoint in Verona.

The Gothic church of Santa Anastasia is the most striking in Verona, and this is plenty of competition! The façade boasts a truly marvellous 14th century portal, and the interior is the apotheosis of ecclesiastical opulence.

Just out of the town centre you will find the beautiful Giardino Giusti. Planted by the renowned Giusti family in the 1400s, the gardens, grottoes and fountains have been landscaped onto a hillside, providing a peaceful, beguiling and overwhelmingly relaxing place to visit. The gardens are a fine place to spend an afternoon, enjoy a picnic, and hear the church bells chime in the early evening.

In nearby towns like Valpolicella, winemakers create a cornucopia of fine wines. Local wines like Soave mingle with highly quaffable reds and world-renowned Amarone wines that match perfectly with Verona’s big, meaty dishes.
