Travellers and activities
Situated within the walls of the Victorian harbour of Mullion Cove is a small stretch of beach that is revealed at low tide. It is an area of pebbly sand overlooking the towering cliffs. In addition to Mullion Cove, you'll also find three other stunning beaches. To the north of Mullion, Polurrian Cove is a golden sandy beach popular with beach lovers and surfers. However, it has no facilities, so you'll need to bring your own supplies. Beyond the headland, Poldhu Cove is one of the most popular beaches on the Lizard Peninsula. You'll find a surf school and a café. And if you head south from Mullion, along the coastal path you'll come to one of Britain's most beautiful beaches, Kynance Cove! A magnificent cove with caves, white sand, crystal clear waters and a café.
Mullion for hiking loversStarting from picturesque Mullion Cove, the moderate walk along the South West Coast Path runs 11 kilometres along exposed cliffs and is one of the best walks in the area, passing beautiful sheltered coves and UK landmarks such as the Marconi Monument, where the first transatlantic radio signal was sent, to Lizard Point, the most southerly point in the UK. If you choose to do the walk in spring, you can enjoy the banks of wildflowers and admire how the cliffs are enveloped by clover and orchids. Along the way you will also find some animals such as ponies, sheep and Highland cattle, as well as coves such as Parc Bean Cove and Ogo Dour Cove, where there is a waterfall. Once you leave Kynance Cove along the coastal path, heading towards Lizard Point, you may also see seals and basking sharks. And finally, from Lizard Point, a footpath will take you to Lizard Village, where you can have refreshments.
Mullion is the largest town on the Lizard Peninsula and it is close to Mullion Island, an uninhabited island formed from lava
