Set in a beautiful Victorian building, the Matlock Bath Aquarium and Exhibitions is a little hidden gem, home to over 50 species of fish and Europe's largest public hologram exhibition. During your visit, explore the exhibition of gemstones and fossils from around the world, see the thermal pool with koi fish and carp, and discover the only remaining petrified well in the village!

Head to the Peak District Lead Mining Museum and explore the Temple Mine to see how miners worked over 200 years ago! The tour lasts an hour and offers hard hats for safety. You'll be able to pan for gold using a traditional pan and take some beautiful crystals home with you. In the museum section, see exhibits of rock and mineral specimens from around the world and take the kids to try out the museum's simulated mining tunnels.

Enjoy a memorable ride and take a break as you cruise along the historic and narrow Cromford Canal. The trip lasts two hours and takes place alongside Birdswood, a colourful boat owned by The Friends of Cromford Canal. You will enjoy the beautiful scenery and get up close to the local wildlife. You will also have the unique opportunity to ride in a horse-drawn boat.

Located 3 miles from Matlock, Lea Gardens is a delightful, colourful place that's entirely worth a visit if you're a plant lover. Walk through the garden, take in the colours and scents and enjoy a delicious meal in the tea tent to end the day. The site covers an area of three and a half acres and boasts over 500 varieties of rhododendrons, azaleas, kalmias and many more plants.

The light display on the River Derwent and the Saturday night fireworks are a spectacle not to be missed. Over 120 years old, the Matlock Bath Illuminations is a parade of model ships that takes place in early September and late October. Feel like you're at a carnival, have fun watching the jugglers and take part in the activities. If you want to visit Matlock each year, you can see a different theme in the light display.

Walk through the remains of the water industry and relax to the sound of falling water. Tucked away on the outskirts of Matlock, Lumsdale Falls is one of the most beautiful natural phenomena in the area and certainly, one of the most peaceful places around. To get there you'll need to follow the walking route that follows the gorge from Matlock to the east of the town in the Lumsdale Valley. The trail is child-friendly, so you can bring the little ones along to marvel at this natural spectacle too.
