One of the ecclesiastical sites in Killarney National Park is Muckross Abbey, which was founded in 1448 as a Franciscan Monastery for the Franciscans of the Observance by Donal McCarthy Mor. The history of this place has been a bit violent and the structure has been somewhat damaged and rebuilt; the friars were persecuted in those times and also robbed. This place is gorgeous and large, it is also very well-preserved, it has a cemetery with many Celtic crosses, and the entrance is free of charge.

When we see enchanting natural spaces we can't look away, especially if we are talking about gardens like Killarney House and Gardens. This space is where many tourists go to have a short walk and relax for a moment, the house itself is an exhibition of the Killarney National Park, and the admission is free.

The 19th century brings wonders of all kinds to our present day, as well as monuments and show-piece mansions such as Muckross House. Walking through its gardens is a pleasure, and seeing the mansion which was built in 1843 by William Burn, you can even ride in a horse-drawn carriage all the way down its path!

St Mary's Cathedral is a monument worth admiring, it was designed by the English architect Augustus Welby Pugin and you will know it as one of the most important Neo-Gothic churches of 19th century Ireland. Its structure is stunning but not ostentatious and although it is new, it is faithful to the elements that do justice to traditions.

Finally, let's talk about the wonderful Killarney National Park! This has been the first national park in Ireland, one of its most outstanding features is that it has herds of red deer and is the largest remaining native forest in Ireland. Hiking through this park is a great plan if you are travelling with your family, you will be able to spot some wonderful animals and scenery.

Torc Waterfall is one of the must-see natural areas of your Killarney destination, this is considered the start of the Ring of Kerry, the walk is uphill, and the trails are wide but offer spectacular views. From the waterfall, you can take a number of trails that lead to the nature reserve.

Gap of Dunloe is another nature stop we'd love you to check out in Killarney. The road is gorgeous, giving you an unforgettable view of the valleys and the forests in the distance let their power shine through; we recommend driving carefully, there are plenty of sheep on the road!
