The castle is open to the public every day of the year, and has 332 hectares of landscaped gardens, a Victorian laundry, a fortified tower house, restaurant, theatre, sawmill, shop and a fully functioning corn mill. Castle Ward lies just yards from the shore of Strangford Lough and for over 25 years was home to Castleward Opera. A highlight of the fort is that it was used as a filming location for Winterfell in the HBO series Game of Thrones.
2. Meet the beautiful Rowallane GardenIt is a National Trust-owned garden located on the A7 road south of Saintfield. It is particularly well known for its large collection of azaleas and rhododendrons and is home to the National Collection of Penstemons. It opened on 16 May 1956 after being taken over by the National Trust in July 1955. The garden covers 30 hectares in total and includes a walled garden, wildflower meadows, rocky woodland, a bell tower, two walking trails and a tea room.
3. Tour the enchanting Castlewellan Forest ParkThe park is located in the town of Castlewellan. Its grounds cover over 430 hectares, including woodland and a lake. It was opened to the public in 1967 after the Annesley family sold the land to the Department of Agriculture Forest Service. The park is home to the National Arboretum which has trees from North and South America, Asia and Australasia, the Peace Maze which has 6,000 yew trees that were planted by various volunteers from Northern Ireland and Castlewellan Castle built between 1856 and 1858 as a Scottish manor fort.

It was founded in the 12th century by John Courcy as a sign of remorse for destroying the monastery that was built before it. The Abbey is located in the town of Downpatrick, and its gothic architecture represents parts of Northern Ireland's history. In addition, this ancient monastery is another location in County Down that is featured several times in the famous Game of Thrones series.
