The National Showcaves Centre for Wales is located in the Brecon Beacons National Park in the town of Blaenau Gwent. It is a 17 kilometre long cave system which is divided into three caves: Dan-yr-Ogof, Cathedral Cave and Bone Cave, all of which have their own particular charm, especially Bone Cave, as there are 42 human skeletons buried there, the story of which you will hear from a guide once you begin your tour. Now, if you want a landscape with beautiful ocean views, Glamorgan Heritage Coast is the place. Located in the town of Barry, this 14-mile stretch of coastline combines rolling hills and paths covered in lush green grass, and from its peaks you can admire the tranquil ocean. Many people visit for picnics, outdoor activities, pet walks and to take pictures.
South Wales for history loversThere's no shortage of historic sites in this part of Wales either, and if you're a lover of culture you'll no doubt find these places quite interesting. First up is Carreg Cennen Castle, a castle located in the village of Trap, near the River Cennen. This imposing 6-towered castle has been in ruins since 1462 and is presumed to have been built by Rhys ap Gruffydd, one of the kings of Wales. Because it is on top of a hill, this gives it an imposing and quite an impressive appearance with beautiful views of the cliffs. You can also pay a visit to Llancaiach Fawr Manor, which is a 16th century manor house in the north of Cardiff that has now been restored. The manor house can be enjoyed in a variety of ways throughout the year as it hosts a number of events, including ghost tours, Christmas festivals and academic workshops. You can also stroll through the traditional historic gardens, browse the gift shop, and have a snack in the tea-rooms.
The temperature in South Wales can vary throughout the year, with temperatures around 68 °F during the summer and 43 °F during the winter.
