The pier was built in 1867, founded in 1869 and is the only one remaining in the state of Yorkshire. Initially, the length of the bridge was 1500 feet until a storm in October 1875 destroyed the beginning and end of the pier. In 1877, it was reduced to 1250 feet and a few years later a bandstand was formed at the pierhead. On 8 May 1924 the Ovenbeg struck the bridge leaving a gap of 210 feet and so at different times the pier continued to suffer some damage until 2001 when it was restored for the last time. Today, the pier measures some 681 feet and has a café within the kiosk facilities.

Not only that, but it has a large collection of creatures such as owls, vultures, crows, emus, caracaras, chickens, ducks, meerkats and mongooses. You can take part in the flying displays or feed the animals.

The museum describes different events in the history of Marske from the 11th century to the present day. 6. Ride the famous Saltburn Cliff TramwayA balanced water funicular built in 1884 linking the town of Saltburn by the Sea with the beach 70 metres below and the pier. It is the oldest in Britain. In 1924, an electrically operated water pump was installed. The tramway has been renovated in recent decades to maintain the Victorian tradition.
