Portheras Cove is the crown jewel of Pendeen. The stunning, picture-perfect white-sand cove beach is secluded and surrounded by rugged cliffs. It’s a great place to go for a peaceful walk along the scenic shoreline.

Reaching this secluded cove involves an easy five-minute downhill walk from the car park next to the road. However, the fact that it’s slightly off the beaten path lends to its pristine white sandy shores and stunning scenery. There are no facilities here, but it’s all part of the charm! It’s a fantastic little beach to go to for a swim, or to spend all day sunbathing and strolling along the soft sandy shoreline.

Just a short drive away from Pendeen is the idyllic Trengwainton Garden. This National Trust site boasts spectacular gardens filled with exotic plants and trees as well as green spaces and walking paths. It’s a great place to visit during the warmer months when the sun is shining, since the majority of attractions here are outdoors. Discover the kitchen gardens and meander down wooded walkways. There’s a lovely bookshop here and a charming little tearoom. You can easily spend half a day or more discovering all the hidden gems around these gardens.

Pendeen was once a thriving centre of Souther England’s tin mining industry. The Geevor Tin Mine is a preserved former tin mining site perched on the cliffs of Pendeen. The site offers visitors a glimpse into Pendeen’s mining past. Here you can visit a museum filled with historic mining equipment, artefacts, and memorabilia. You can also do a tour of the underground mine led by a knowledgable guide. There’s a little gift shop, a café with nice food, and excellent views here too!

The white, picturesque Pendeen Lighthouse is one of the village’s most iconic sites. It’s situated 2 kilometres to the north of the village. You can reach it via a lovely walk along the coastline, which offers spectacular views of the water and of the rugged coastline the entire way. If you’re lucky, you might see dolphins, seals, or sharks in the waters below. The best time to visit the lighthouse is during sunset when the lighting is golden and the views are spectacular.

Pendeen offers a nice little selection of restaurants, pubs, and cafés for visitors to enjoy. For a lovely breakfast or lunch, go to Maria Chica Pendeen which offers a creative menu of fresh dishes made with high-quality ingredients. Radjel Inn is a top-rated pub with excellent cuisine and a great menu of drinks. For a cosy, casual meal, dine at the stunning North Inn, where you can find a menu filled with traditional English fare like Sunday roast and rabbit pie.

Pendeen Fogou (also known as Pendeen Vau) is a 3,000-year-old Bronze Age man-made cave. It is in the farmyard of Pendeen Manor Farm, which is private property, so you’ll have to ask for permission to visit the site, but they’re usually welcoming of visitors. According to local legends, the cave stretches for several miles underground.
