You can also find shorter routes such as the 6 mile (9.66 km) circular walk from the town to Manor Vale Woodland Nature Reserve and the village of Gillamoor. Once you reach Gillamoor, you can climb to Suprise View for unsurpassed views of the North York Moors countryside.

With five acres full of colour and scent, Helmsley Walled Garden is the closest option to Kirkbymoorside where you can enjoy both nature and the great outdoors in beautiful surroundings. A little further afield from Kirkbymoorside, you'll find Yorkshire's largest lavender farm, located in Malton. Yorkshire Lavender, almost 60 acres in size, sits on a hillside in the Howardian Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Kirkbymoorside Golf Club provides a challenging golf course in a tranquil rural setting with distant views over areas of outstanding natural beauty. Known as “The best pub in the North York Moors”, the Lion Inn It's the 4th highest pub in England and a must-visit spot. Book a table in the cosy pub and enjoy the rustic atmosphere with low beamed ceilings and candlelit tables. The pub is well known for serving a good selection of real ales and an extensive menu. Head to the National Bird of Prey Centre and meet the majestic birds that live here. Located on the Duncombe Park estate in Helmsley, this attraction will give you a memorable day out surrounded by incredible birds of prey. At this attraction, you will see everything from hawks, owls, tiny owls to eagles and other birds of prey.

Take a day trip to Pickering and climb aboard the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. This former steam train offers a 24-mile journey through the incredibly beautiful scenery of the Yorkshire countryside that is not to be missed. Make yourself comfortable on board, gaze out the large window at the cool meadows, and make a unique stop at the magical Goathland station. This is the Hogsmeade station that was used in the first Harry Potter film.

A 20-minute drive from Kirkbymoorside, head to Malton to visit one of Europe's great palaces, Castle Howard.
