Itching for a road trip? Luckily many of the most scenic drives in the area are just 20 minutes away. For starters, why not see the majestic Killarney National Park from one of the scenic viewpoints along the Ring of Kerry? The full length of the Ring of Kerry is approximately 111 miles, the equivalent of a three-and-a-half-hour trip. Thankfully, however, you can tail your journey any way you choose. The closest scenic hotspots to Kenmare are Ladies View and Moll’s Gap.

History and nature lovers can’t miss seeing the 5,000 years of history on display at the Bonane Heritage Park. Apart from fascinating mediaeval dwellings, some of the sites to look out for include a 1,500-year-old ringfort and famine ruins.

Feast your eyes on the traditional, delicate needlepoint lace brought to Kenmare by the nuns of the Poor Clare convent. At the Kenmare Lace and Design Centre, you will be able to both learn about the intriguing history of this fine lace and buy a few pieces to take back home with you.

Get to know the area a little better with a 40-minute trip to a 19th century Victorian Irish mansion called Muckross House. While you’re here, tour the farm and enjoy a meal in the garden restaurant. Visits are by guided tour only, which is easy to arrange.
