You may also observe various species of birds, butterflies, and even some otters here.

Barnard Castle is a fantastic place to visit for foodies. Go to the Cross Lanes Organic Farm, where you can enjoy their fresh and healthy produce cooked to perfection by masterful chefs. They also have a market area that you can stroll through and buy seasonal vegetables, frozen meals, and baked goods. Another treat for food lovers in Barnard Castle is Chocolate Fayre. The shop sells 90 different types of mouth-watering homemade chocolates. Go there to be greeted by the wonderful smell of chocolate and try their delicious products. No need to worry about leaving their chocolates behind. You can join their tasters’ club where you’ll get a box of their lovely chocolates delivered to your door each month.

Barnard Castle is a massive medieval castle with lovely views and wonderful architectural features. There are centuries of history and serene green grounds to discover here. There’s no parking on-site, but you can find parking just 500 meters away from the castle.

Bowes Museum is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon strolling around the collections of unique items. Here, you can find both historical artefacts and modern exhibitions of great value. There’s a shop where you can buy beautiful pieces of art that were inspired by the museum’s collections.

Teesdale Alpacas is an alpaca farm in Barnard Castle that you can visit for a very pleasant day outdoors. You can either visit the farm and get close to the alpacas or you can go for an alpaca walk with a friendly alpaca assigned to you. The farm only serves customers with reservations, and you’ll need to book ahead of your visit. They’re open for visits from March to October.

Eggleston Hall Gardens is a place you must visit with its lush, colourful plants and rich history. The gardens have been in Eggleston Hall since the 16th century, and today it’s called the “Secret Garden of the North.” The gardens are kept in excellent condition, and you’ll find new plants added each year, constantly expanding the variety of the plants.

St Mary’s Catholic Church is a beautiful, small church that you can visit and explore– it shows a sad but romantic side of the town’s history. The church’s construction started after John Bowles's catholic wife died suddenly. He loved his wife very much and wanted to make her wish of building a chapel come true. He started the project soon after she passed away. Today, you can enjoy the lovely interiors and stained-glass windows of this church during your visit.

Called Butter Market by the locals, Market Cross is a historical building with a very colourful history. The building was used as a prison, a fire station, and a dairy marketplace among other things. Today, you can visit the lower floor of the building and take photos of the lovely columns on the veranda.

Capri Restaurant serves authentic Italian dishes in a lovely setting. You can find different varieties of pasta and pizza and fantastic desserts. The presentation of the dishes is top-notch, and the friendly staff is ready to make you feel at home at Capri.
