Due to its shallow depth, light reaches the estuary floor and there are a variety of aquatic plants such as quillwort, aquatic lobelia and shoreweed. The surrounding area is completely privileged by the presence of reeds, horsetails, rushes and willow thickets. The lake holds some otters, pike, migratory geese and other wild birds. On the northern shores of the estuary, the remains of a medieval farmhouse are visible.
