The Camí de Cavalls runs for 185 km around the island, hugging the coastline and leading you to dozens of beautiful beaches. If you'd rather cycle inland, try Es Mercadal as a starting point. This charming village is a 30-minute ride from Monte Toro, the highest point on the island. At the top, you'll find an old religious sanctuary, complete with a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary.

What's the best time of year for a bike holiday in Menorca?

Menorca is not quite as hot as Mallorca in summer, and temperatures rarely get above 30°C. However, a cycling holiday in July or August may not be the best idea. There is very little shade along trails like the Camí de Cavalls, so you will feel the heat more acutely. With so much unspoiled nature, there are long stretches without shops or restaurants. This means cyclists will need to carry lots of water. Furthermore, the summer months are when the island is at its busiest. It's better to go in spring or autumn: the months of April - May and September - October have mild temperatures, ideal for cycling. In winter, the strong Tramuntana winds can cause problems for cyclists.

What sort of bike will I need to explore Menorca?

You'll need a mountain bike for Menorca's trails. Although you won't see serious elevation changes as you cycle around the island, you'll usually be on unpaved paths. Where can I rent a bike in Menorca?
