A true Hideaway built in the 1800s that lies right in the heart of the Blythburgh Woodlands.
Located in the woodlands between Blythburgh, a Suffolk Village with Royal Anglo-Saxon Connections, and Walberswick.
This cottage is a completely secluded gem that has been restored while keeping its character and beauty.
For those seeking to be away from the concrete busy world and looking to immerse themselves into another world.
This is the only true experience you’d be looking for.
The Cottage dates back to the 1800s and still keeps its historical rustic nature and traditional roots, perfect for a relaxing holiday.
Melting between the forest, and connected to civilization only by a private dirt road running through the woods; this cottage can house up to 6 guests (in two and a half bedrooms).
Guests will have the entire cottage and practically the area for themselves. Dog walkers and hikers may pass a few hundred yards from the cottage through the footpaths, but in essence, you won't see any human or cars within half a mile.
When accessing the cottage you go through a truly 1800s kitchen, boasting into the living/dining room. As you approach the second floor, there is a family bedroom with a sofa bed that converts into two single beds and directly into the master bedroom and a second bedroom consisting of a bunk bed with a double bottom bunk (please note that the top bunk is not suitable for adults). Please be aware that to access the second room you must go through the master room and the family room.
Due to the nature of the construction of the cottage having been built during the 1800s, there are no bathrooms within the cottage; however, a brand new outside bathroom has been built just across the cottage for guests to use.
The Cottage boasts an external BBQ and a fire pit for guests to have a warm campfire and barbecue amongst friends and family.
Kitchen & Bathroom water is heated by fire and not electricity nor gas.
There is a wood-heated hot tub in the front of the cottage which should be booked in advance. The housekeeper will leave it filled up ready for you to heat it up, and carries a surcharge of £40 payable on site.
Electrics are powered only by solar panels, therefore, phone/computer charging and lighting plus few hours of TV/Music and is not a problem. The cottage has a small fridge/cooler where you can keep your drinks and food fresh.
No internet, hair dryers or kettles are usable or available.
Please note the gardener will attend on a weekly basis to cut the grass, but we do our best to keep the disturbance to the minimum. Occasionally there are shoots organised in the area and shooting groups might pass by.
PLEASE BE AWARE!
This property is OFF the GRID, so few things need to be done and managed by the guests to run the cottage and fully enjoy your stay!
Electric power works with 3 different systems: solar, battery pack and back-up generator. NOTICE you may need to switch or reset the system if needed!
Hot Water is provided by burning wood systems, BE PREPARED to use some pre-cut logs and fire them inside the boiler system!
Wood for the firepit & BBQ can be bought from us, as well as any excess wood you require in addition to the already provided house wood.
Take a trip back in time and escape the modern world!. Lighting a fire to heat water to wash with and having fun with the firepit and bbq gives you an amazing insight into life in the 1800s.
Our guests love exploring the woods, swinging in the tree swing and soaking in the hot tub. A real gem! Perfect for getting away from it all.
Guests are welcome to bring their dogs, at an additional charge of £10. Dogs will enjoy walks but please do not allow them to disturb the estuary birds, for which these marshes are a scarce and much needed habitat.
For breakfast there is a very nice bakery 5 minutes driving from the cottage called Black Dog Deli.
We can also recommend The Anchor and The Bell, both located in Walberswick, 5 minutes away.
This cottage is not suitable for people with reduced mobility as stairs to the second floor are steep.
It is important that our cottage is kept safe and well respected. Features of the property date back to the 1800s and it is very important that it is well preserved.
The cottage's historical construction results in rooms being interconnected.
For any bookings to go ahead, please note you must agree and sign an undertaking and a waiver that will stipulate what the guest undertakes certain restrictions as the cottage is situated within a Nature Reserve (SSSI) and waive liability created by the age of the cottage.
